The Australian Government announced changes to the Temporary Graduate visa programs, effective from 1 July 2024, as part of its recent Migration Strategy. Key changes include:
- Visa Stream Renaming:
- Graduate Work stream becomes the Post-Vocational Education Work stream.
- Post-Study Work stream becomes the Post-Higher Education Work stream.
- Qualification-Based Eligibility:
- Post-Vocational Education Work stream: For associate degrees, diplomas, or trade qualifications related to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
- Post-Higher Education Work stream: For degree-level qualifications or higher.
- Age Restrictions:
- Maximum eligible age for both streams reduced to 35 years.
- Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders eligible up to 50 years.
- Stay Periods:
- Post-Vocational Education Work stream: Up to 18 months (5 years for Hong Kong/British National Overseas passport holders).
- Post-Higher Education Work stream:
- Bachelor degree: Up to 2 years
- Masters (coursework and extended): Up to 2 years
- Masters (research) and PhD: Up to 3 years
- Special provisions for Indian nationals under AI-ECTA with longer stay periods for certain qualifications.
- Second Post-Higher Education Work Stream: Renamed with no other changes.
- Replacement Stream: Will be discontinued.
